Field Services Centre
In Bagram and Kandahar, Afghanistan our team designed and built two 16,000 square foot Field Services Centres providing the US Army with vital facilities to maintain its RG33 Series Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles in-theatre.
The facilities provide dedicated space in which our Readiness and Sustainment field service representatives can perform maintenance tasks, mid-level fabrications, service and repairs. Each facility has fully outfitted, four-bay shops, with welding capabilities, power hook-ups, a tool room, ventilation, air conditioning and capacity for a 15 tonne crane. In addition, the facilities have classrooms to assist with training soldiers in the field.

Bulldog Upgrade
Under a vital upgrade programme, British Army FV430 armoured personnel carriers received a new engine and drivetrain to bring them up to ‘Bulldog’ specification.
The upgrade extends the useful service life of the platform by 20 years, greatly increases performance and reliability and significantly reduces support costs. Vehicles destined for Iraq also received a UOR (Urgent Operational Requirement) package of armour, a remotely-operated weapon system and other improvements which provide enhanced personnel protection. BAE Systems engineers based in Basra, Iraq implemented the upgrade and provided ongoing support, both of which went smoothly. This approach to Readiness and Sustainment was awarded a 2008 Aviation Week & Space Technology Program Excellence Award and 2007 UK Minister of Defence ‘Smart Procurement’ Award and it is helping to deliver sustained through life savings to the customer.

Integrated Vehicle Health Management
Building upon 15 years of extensive experience, we are developing new systems to provide around the clock healthcheck capability for military vehicles.
The new Integrated Vehicle Health Management (IVHM) systems join together a chain of maintenance and support modules for military vehicles. IVHM provides operators, mission commanders and maintenance personnel with a constantly updated picture of status and availability of assets. Able to monitor the use of military vehicles, detect faults before they cause damage and avoid unnecessary maintenance, IVHM is already enabling support ranging from the Bradley Fighting Vehicles diagnostics and maintenance systems, to the health management systems of Typhoon.

Caiman MTV Solution
Under a vital enhancement program, BAE Systems is upgrading 1,700 Caiman MRAP vehicles to support U.S. troops in achieving mission success.
The upgraded vehicle, called the Caiman Multi-Terrain Vehicle (MTV), integrates a refurbished and improved armored capsule from an existing Caiman with a new high-power automotive power train, chassis and independent suspension. These enhancements will provide greater levels of mobility and survivability necessary for challenging and varied environments and enemy threats.
BAE Systems is actively supporting the sustainment of MRAP vehicles in theater with field service representatives serving directly alongside military personnel. In addition, the company jointly with the U.S. Army is establishing an integration and assembly capability at the MRAP Support Facility in Kuwait.
